KUALA LUMPUR, July 30,2010 (News Agencies) .
Malaysia is considering a slate of novel initiatives in protecting the Muslim consumers. Days after a regional leader called for labeling of haram products the country's industry minister has announced that the government may introduce a bar-code system, the Business Times reported.
International Trade and Industry Minister Mukhriz Mahathir said, "Although I feel that the type-in method is easy and user friendly, we are looking at the possibility to introduce the bar-code system as a step further to identify halal goods."
The bar code is dedicated to the development and implementation of global standards and solutions to improve the efficiency and visibility of halal goods supply across multiple sectors.
Yesterday, Mukhriz presented certificates to about 10 participants who completed the halal training programme, organized by hypermarket operator Mydin Mohamed Holdings Bhd and Halal Development Council (HDC). |
